Brian the Watering Lion

For the first part of our Project 2, we had to design a Brian with a personality using Arduino. Our initial idea was to make a machine that would remind you to drink water because many people struggle to drink enough water daily. To make it more playful, we developed a character of a lion that would sit next to you as you work and gather data about the current light level and temperature. It would then spray water with a custom mechanism to remind you to drink.

What happened

We changed our concept a few weeks before the deadline to fulfil all the requirements. We decided to make Brian a hand sanitizer placed in hospitals to ensure people sanitize their hands. We added a motion sensor to detect if there is a hand in front of the Brian, so it would spray only if you placed your hand in front of it. However, our shell for the final product was not ready on time, therefore we had to put our Brian into a simple box. Despite this inconvenience, we still want to paint the shell and fit our mechanism into it, to see how it would actually look and work.
