Welcome to Nessa!

Who is NESSA?

NESSA is an AI assistant designed to help seniors stay connected in the real world by suggesting concrete activities to fill their often monotonous lives. The project is part of a broader system to fill the gap of the societal issues of elderly isolation and inactivity due to boredom (Soler Ribelles, 2024). More information can be found here, and the interaction can be seen in the video below.

Learning points

The biggest challenge during the project was learning and understanding the concept of AI and how to implement this knowledge in the design field. Seeing AI has huge potential and is only going to get better with time, so I decided it would be a good idea to make a project with AI.

Looking back, I was not particularly interested in working and prompting existing models. Being more proficient in prototyping and product making, I shifted my focus towards the physical prototype, where I needed to attach a screen interface to an old telephone.

I also edited the final video for this project, which, to my surprise, I quite enjoyed working on. I see video editing being similar to physical prototyping, as I can directly see and track my progress.
